The Book wasnt all that great Jul 07, 1999 The Xenogears strategy guide helped me a lot in certain areas where I got stuck, but then again the directions were a bit off and confused me at times. I had to rely on my desire to explore levels before I actually knew what to do. The art and overall design of the book was really good, and the enemy index in the back helped me a lot. At times I regret buying the book, but then again, it did help me when I got lost and didn't know what to do. I highly recommend that you rely on yourself ( and not the book)to beat the game, but if you need help, the guide does work.

Somewhat detailed, no maps, some spoilers Jan 07, 2000 I'll tell you one thing, at least it doesn't have as much errors as the FF8 official guide does! ;) Anyway, this is a decent book, yet it has some spoilers, and a lack of maps really lets it down. Although, they do have detailed information on sidequests, deathblows, abilities, statistics, and all, which is plus for the book. If they had maps, kinda like the ones from FF7, I'd probably give this 4 stars instead. A lot of spots in the book confused me to the point where I stopped reading it. I stopped reading it in the middle of Disc 2, and found most everything else on my own. There was too much "Go southwest, wait at your position for 55 seconds, push the boulder, run to the east, jump up the left stones, wait for the soldier to arrive, activate the alarm, and prepare to go to the second floor." The recommended levels they stated for each area was obosolete...like, in one area, it said the recommended level was 40, and I was, at, like, 67, unintentionally! They should've raised the stakes more. ^_~ ANOTHER letdown is that they show what happens in the ending! Major spoiler!

great game, great guide. Apr 26, 2003
By Edward Alan Bartholomew yep, xenogears. this is undoubtedly one of the best rpgs ever created. i'd say that the storyline is what makes this game shine, but then i thought about it.. everything makes this game shine. however, sometimes it's tough.. and with the help of this strategy guide, things make a lot more sense, and the game is just much more enjoyable. don't complain that it gives away the plot; that's nonsense. strategy guides should really only be used when you have trouble doing stuff on your own. don't read the book and then complain about knowing the story; that's ridiculous. first of all, the strategy guide is very comprehensive. not only does it tell you what to do, but it tells you what to do step by step. it will guide you through all of the turns you need to take, and tells you of every enemy and item you'd encounter along the way. ah, the enemies. the final boss to this game, not to give away any details, could be considered one of the hardest and strategically-challenging bosses in a while. there are so many variations to that final fight, and it's such a great experience every time. however, being as challenging as it is, this strategy guide could come in very handy. their coverage of any boss fight is detailed and in-depth, with pre-battle strategies to boot. it's can't really get any better, in my opinion. i think that this strategy guide is one of the best, if not the best, that i own. great game, equally great guide.

Amazing game, shame about the guide... Mar 29, 2002
By Janz I think it's agreed by all that Xenogears is one of the best RPG produced. It's a pity then that the strategy guide doesn't live up to that reputation. Although I did find it useful in places, the fact that parts of the walkthrough is completely wrong and some secrets were missed out didn't help. From a design point of view, the book is terrible. Empty white spaces made me thnk the book was being padded to fill pages and there is a general lack of artwork from the game. It's a shame as the publisher is usually excellent at producing strategy guides (Parasite Eve & FF VII). Buy the book if you really are stuck. Otherwise there's always the internet...
