Versatile and cheap, yets lacks 5.1 optical for XBOX Jun 06, 2006
By Dov Charney

A huge oversight, probably done to reduce cost is the lack of Digital Optical out for the XBOX on these cables. Unlike the PS2 which has its own output for the Digital Optical Cable to support DTS and true Dolby Digital, the XBOX does not. The MS official HDAV pack provides that output and even a few 3rd party knock offs have it as well. Obviously a flaw in the console design of the XBOX 1, this is only exacerbated by the fact that the MS official HDAV pack is now a rare item that fetches huge prices on ebay for such a trivial function.
Now that the XBOX1 is being phased out I doubt Madcatz will release an update. Basically these are fine for PS2 consoles (I own 3 sets) but useless for the XBOX if you have a 5.1 surround system.

Not enough component jacks or money? Get this. Oct 14, 2005

"Thank you very much"
I have a Sony HD TV and bought this cable for the unbelievable price of less than 10 dollars. And the video is splendid. I did side-by-side comparisons with it and the standard cable and the difference was terrific. I have a Gamecube with the Nintendo-made component cable, and I compare the video output of that to the Madcatz cable and there is no difference. This applies to both PS2 and Xbox, as the cable works with both. ONE COMPLAINT: You can't have both systems connected at the same time, or else the audio will not work when you play PS2 games. The Xbox is unaffected by this, but this means that whenever I want to play my PS2, I have to take the cable out of the Xbox. If this sounds like something you're unwilling to do, don't buy this cable. But since my TV only has holes for 2 sets of component cables, I find this to be MUCH easier than having an independent set of cables for each console and constantly removing them all when I decide I want to play Halo followed by Katamari Damacy. Bottom Line: best set of cables for the money. If you have a PS2 and an Xbox but not a lot of component jacks, this is for you.

Very Disappointed Aug 25, 2005

Madcatz is usually a pretty reliable brand as far as accessories for video game consoles go, but they've let me down this time. This component cable set appears to be well manufactured, but is a little thin as far as the wire gauge goes and the output to my TV shimmers and wavers constantly. Output is bad for both games and DVDs -- I don't know how anyone can buy these cables and use them. In fact my Intec S-Video cable looks much better and it's constucted of higher gauge wiring. I can't see spending the ridiculously overpriced $50-$80 for "ultra-premium" offerings from Monster Cable or like brands, guess some middle ground has to be found from the high rated Sony or likely more reliable Intec brand.

good for games, not for playing DVDmovies Jun 18, 2005

I just bought one from bb last night, hook up the PS2 to my infocus 4805 projector component input.
1)when playing games, it's pretty good, much much clearer than the regular RCA yellow input, no doubt.
2)very very bad quality playing DVD though, even the characters in the movie(credits) don't display straight. I wonder if there's any interference, or it's the quality of the cable.
I am going to return it and try the authentic PS2(only) cable from sony itself. $24.99 in Frys.
Audio quality went down tremendously. Jan 18, 2008
By R. Gordon I think the cable is defective. Prior to using this cable my audio quality was as expected. With this new cable my video quality is wonderful, but I have serious audio issues. The normal audio for every game now has a hum and distortion that makes the xbox unplayable with this cable. I have wonderful audio out of all other components attached to my receiver.
