3rd Strike for the PS2 ! YAY! Jul 18, 2010 Street Fighter Anniversary Collection is true to its name. The collection goes from Street Fighter 2 through all versions of Street Fighter 2 to Street Fighter: 3rd Strike. Buying This game was a kind of a dream come true. Those that weren't fortunate enough to get a Dreamcast or having loads of quarters to playing on the machines would have been happy to buy this game mainly for Street Fighter: 3rd Strike to play on their PS2.
Being able to mix up characters from all the Street Fighter 2 versions in a fight is more of a nostalgia factor than trying to beat the game or find strategies for. All Original graphic are in there, and some songs have been changed up a bit, I assume due to different versions of the same stage but on different versions of the game. This is a pretty good addition to the collection even though we buy this game mostly for 3rd Strike.
Street Fighter: 3rd Strike is an exact port of the arcade game, with character select timer, events like fighting Q, and endings are all in there. There are also options that were put in to change the reaction time for parrying attacks and other basic nuances of gameplay.
Oh! Can't forget to mention the Instructions Manual. This is one pathetic manual. There are typos for some moves, arrow combination's are also a bit skewed, and they did not include what some of the options do in 3rd Strike. I fiddled around with them, and I could not see a difference and I did not know what they did. The last 4 pages were dedicated to ads for selling t-shirts, costumes, books, and toys. They should have spent a bit more time with the explanation of some of the very vague options and the the proof reading of typos. Perhaps doing some character bios would have been nice. But we can all find info about each character and the game on the internet, so I suppose we aren't totally lost.
When you start up the CD it'll take you to a screen with 2 options: play 3rd Strike, play SF2. You can find the movie in the options menu when playing SF2. The movie has been set to the terrible English voice actors and also censored. From poking around, the option can't be changed.
This game is a must buy for those who don't have a Dreamcast and want to play 3rd Strike at home on their PS2, for SF fans, for people who love nostalgia, or for people trying out a new game.
Into the heat of battle. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!! Apr 30, 2010 Yes the battle cry for the anouncer of SF3. The SF game that should have been a hit, but alas twas not. What can I say about SF3, but WOW!!!!!!!!! I know your thinking, wait a minute isn't there two games on here. Yes, there is. But I want to mainly concentrate on SF3. In my opinion this the best SF game ever made. That is including SF2 and SSFIV. In fact if it was not for SSFIV I would be spending all of my time with this game. The graphics are great, the animation is so fluid, its like watching a high quality animated cartoon. The game play is very indept, and smooth as silk. It also has the parry system and the super arts, this game version of the ultra combo. The music in the game is the best in the series. Yes, some tracks are not as good as others, but some of these themes just are so slick. In fact this whole game is slick. This hands down is the coolest SF game made, the game just has a nice vibe to it as far as I'm concerned the best anouncer to. As I like to say this is the Miami Vice of fighting games. In case you don't know Miami Vice was a highly stylized, glossy, slick 1980's cop show that was very high on style. And to me this is what this game is. High on style and substance and thats rare. But, if you are a fighting game fan you need this in your collection. This game is that good. I know people complain that it didn't have alot of SF2 characters, and face some of these fighters are just weird. But, the good characters are good as any, in any SF game. Yes, I simp hard for this game. Trust me if your like SSFIV, do yourself a favor and pick this up. It is a hidden gem in the Sf universe. It is a shame it is so over looked. You can also take a trip down memory lane and play a little SF2, to see what started it all. Now see thats the win, win. Lata
STREET FIGHTER ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION Jan 03, 2010 GOOD GAME is worth the price alone just becuase your getting stret fighter 3 3rd strike on there which is still played and known as one of the best street fighter games to this day has all versions of sf2 also has the street fighter 2 movie! this is a no lose for street fighter fans your getting all iterations of sf2, stret fighter 2 the animated movie, and street fighter 3 third strike for cheap! this is a deal GO GET IT!
Worth it for the reduced price! Sep 02, 2009 While world warrior was fun I was not the biggest SF 2 fan. There tend to be two camps...Those like me who loved the Alpha series....and the hardcore traditionalist who left the SF mythos after SF 2 added cammy, D-Jay, and T-hawk to the fold.
It is a shame SF suffered a dent in its' fanbase considering SF 3 was awesome. Sadly SF 3 suffered from what KOF 12 is now afflicted with. When SF 3 first came out it had bare minimal characters. It was still very fun and looked beautiful from an artistic perspective but those whom got used to SF Alpha 3's huge roster were pretty disappointed. All things considered at least the first iteration of SF 3 still had decent endings for every participant & the newcomers such as Sean, Elena,Ibuki, and Necro added a breath of new blood the franchise desperately needed.
Fortunatelly for you the game in this package is 3rd strike. Some may argue SF 3 2nd Impact is the best but I prefer 3rd strike for the sheer amount of content and an even meatier fighter roster.
Compared to the Alpha series 3rd strike forces you to strategize. Each character has quite a few "super arts" but they can only choose one before the battle royale begins. Furthermore Ken, Chun Li, Akuma, and Ryu have been completely "remixed" so there is actually much diversity in even the classic characters. The shota characters are still "similar" but at least now there is more variation between them.
3rd strike also introduced the "parry system". It allows any character to block then counter any move from an opponent leaving them wide open. In tournaments between the most devoted street fighter fans you can see how much depth this adds to the game!
My only qualm is Alpha remastered the SF story line and made it good whereas 3rd Strike's conclusions leave much to be desired. Let's just say the character development was usually much better even in the other versions of SF 3 whereas 3rd strike lambasts the characters or has them fade out into the credits with a whimper instead of a bang. It's much like playing Tekken 5. It's as if the designers decided to make 3rd strike into one half brawler comedy and one half obscure nonsense. The few endings that are not ludicrously ridiculous are simply "meh". Even Remy's more serious journey may have you scratching your head.
I know I've neglected SF 2 and for those of you into "the classics" rest assured most iterations of SF 2 exist in the Anniversary collection and there is a "mix mode" that allows you to pit different variations of these characters against each other! Of course my biggest gripe is many characters remained mostly unchanged throughout the evolution of SF 2 so it is not quite as epic as it sounds.
At $14.00 this is a great opertunity for 2D brawler fans. Don't pass it up!
Pros
+Every version of SF 2 exists with a mix mode
+ SF 3rd Strike is essential to every SF fans collection.
Cons
- In my opinion I would have liked if 3rd strike was in a collector's bundle pack with the other iterations of SF 3
-I'm not the biggest fan of SF 2 though I'm an overall fan of the series. If you want this game at its' peak I suggest downloading Super SF 2 HD mega mix over X-box live or your Ps3.
A must have for 2D Fighter Fans Jul 29, 2009 These games are quite a trip to the past (if you dont own them on some sort of emulator already). However, having 3rd Strike is a real treat... The games are a very good console port of the arcade versions and feature training modes. Have fun duking it out against a really hard computer (PS2 is a faster machine than say, the PS1 or SNES) or some really difficult human opponents....
