 Fun and addictive game, but real flaws Feb 24, 2010
As many other reviewers find, this game is entertaining and can be very addictive ("Just one more turn, honey"). Graphics are good enough, and playability reasonably balanced with complexity. But as someone who played the old Civ in the 90s, this version definitely loses much of the nuance. The AI is not always so bright -- at times producing brilliant invasions or tactical maneuvers against your civ, at other times missing obvious chances to strike a blow. Higher difficulty levels help, but not completely. The advisors and diplomacy are so hopelessly limited and predictable that I ignore them nearly completely. The game tends to feel too short, and the abrubt end to many can be very annoying -- either you're on the brink of easy victory and must choose to avoid doing what would end it, or some other civ wins just as you feel it's all coming together. All this aside, the price was right and I hardly regret the purchase.

My husband had been eying this game for a while but wasn't sure he'd like it and never bought it. I decided to buy it for him. He loves it! I wasn't thinking it would be a game I would get into, boy was I wrong! It's so addictive. I play much more than he does. There is so much replay value here. The different difficulty levels plus the different scenario modes. There are 16 different civilizations to choose. I have also downloaded the free add ons from the Playstation store. My only complaint on this game is it ends too soon. I find it a little easy overall. I have never played the PC games but hearing they are more complex, I am going to try them.
 Much better than a game of Chess Feb 12, 2010
If your like me where I have to bribe my girlfriend to play chess or don't know anyone who really wants to play a strategy game and also have limited time to bust out a full on civ game, than this is for you. Sure it's not as deep as civ 4, but it just as fun. Initially I was very upset with the limited maps, but with download from the ps3 store you can get North America, Earth (small), UK, etc. Definitely worth the $27. This will be a game that I'll revisit often.
Addictive Civilizaton Building Lite Feb 12, 2010
Perfect for the PS3, Civilization Revolution is a streamlined, turn-based goal achieving entertainment. Avoiding a review digressing into game-play critique, I'll stress the basic elements.
Who is game for?
The strategy-minded, who may need to put the game in pause because of distractions. Like many Civ-build games, those who are prepared playing for hours just to build one more building or unit.
What is the learning curve? Short for those who enjoyed Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, or the original Warcraft games. (And of course, the Civ games) On-line reference guide included. Short in detail but enough to get the point. Wiki it is not.
How is the graphics?: The supplemental animation is well done but becomes mundane after a couple plays. The in-game is of decent quality cartoon but makes compromises for the attention-short.
Any thoughts on the presentation? The map is a very small world with many city-clusters. Don't expect to keep to your own and remain isolated, ala Age of Empires. You'll meet your opponents early.
Any words on game play anyway? Though you can win one of four ways, the technique is the same. You must aggressively grow by conquest or persuasion to win.
Is the game repeatable? There are many civilizations, most with a number of unique units. There are different scenarios to experiment with.
Why 4 stars and not 5? While the game is addictive having me play into morning, there is no euphoria. While it is a high-quality game, certainly there is a number of high-profile titles that should and do trump this.
What is the most solid factor for 4-stars? The price. No way is this a $59.99 game. A price around $25/new is fair.
About the Reviewer: I owned one of the original Civ games when they were on a stack of 3.5 inch disks. Also have the board game. Have played all the other similar type games mentioned.

Lots of replay value. I see myself playing this for a long time to come. I finished the first couple of times in "easy" mode in about 5 hours. And, there are many other rulers/ways/difficulty levels to start the game with. Lots of fun.
