Fun game but expensive. Aug 24, 2009 This is a very good game but to expensive for a old school game.If you like the hack and slash type of game I would go with Conan. It is lower in price than this one and also just as good.
Good Game Jul 13, 2009 This is a good game, not very complicated and not much good graphics, but good to play and enjoy your time.
I felt I was in ancient Rome! Jan 26, 2009 This game was able to put me in ancient Rome. No game I played before made me feel like that. Ancient times is my favorite part of history and Shadow of Rome puts you in the shoes or should I say sandals of a gladiator thanks to its great story and game play. Though the sneaking around with Octavianus wasn't that great and at times boring, it was well worth it just to get to play as Agrippa. My Ps2 went dead a while ago, bought a 360 but I intend to buy a new Playstation 2 to enjoy this game and others once again.
Replay factor off the charts Jan 20, 2009 I fist saw this game a demo in a nation wide gaming store, and from the start was hooked on this game. I have owned this game since its American release, and still believe it is one of the greatest games ever made for its replay factor alone. I'm not going to give a description of the story since there are numerous reviews that talk about that. Instead I want to talk about why the game is so much fun and why it can be played over and over again.
The game is not without its flaws, but despite the camera angles at times it this flaw is easily overlooked. This is a great game to play when friends come over to see who is the best gladiator, or to see who can escape from a burning building the fastest, navigate a maze the quickest, race your chariot, or kill the most ducks, yes ducks. This game is great to play alone, but the fun is increased ten fold when you compete against your friends. Plus, this is a great way to help earn you that elusive gold trophy.
It took me a long time to claim gold in every event on Extreme mode, but the satisfaction you will feel when you throw a limb at a tiger to win the battle or are able to kick your way to a gold metal in the final arena battle is glorious. The best part of this game is the built in cheat codes which helps prevent people (unless they have a game shark) from taking the easy road to claiming gold in every event. Not to mention the rewards you receive after you have god mode and instant kill unlocked. A many of gladiators have fallen to the random sticks you can pick up as a result of the instant kill mode. The best feature of god mode hands down is the ability to stand there and take punishment while to try to figure out some of the harder salvos (or die while playing Octavius).
And, for those of you who hate, Octavius when you have gone through the game's story mode enough times there is nothing like harassing guards with the chameleon suit.
a Massive Mace and Two Broken Arms Jul 29, 2008 This game is worth the 12 dollars I paid for it. Someone mentioned in an earlier review that the targeting system for the character is off. I agree. It is difficult to target grounded enemies and slow to move about in this game. Having said that, I like the brutality and the different weapons in the game. The targeting system doesn't really allow you to attack specific body parts so the game just gives you different outcomes when using different weapons at different attack angles. You can sever an ememy's arm, pick it up, and whale on him with it. Fun stuff! The cut-scenes are cool but can not be passed.
