5Essential Upgrades  Jul 15, 2010
I'm an avid RB/RB2 drummer, with quite a bit of interest in the quality of my equipment. I really wanted to play with the cymbal pack, so I purchased this product, and so far, I am extremely pleased! Let me list a few things that stuck out at me, mostly small changes that add up to form a much better product than the original drumset:

1. Wireless
-----> I was actually really concerned about this one, what with calibration settings and the like. The wireless obviously makes the unit much easier to move around and negates some of the wire mess that was there before. Despite my concerns, I turned the unit on and it played with flawless timing. Unexpected, but very nice.

2. Noise Dampening Pads
-----> When I play, I play hard. Being an actual drummer, I don't just tap the pads, I play drums on them. These pads are far and away better than the originals. It's not too big of a deal for me personally, since the music is usually way up also, but I can see how it would be a nice benefit for someone else.

3. The base rods are arced, not round
-----> One of the best small changes I could ever imagine! I move my set around a lot for storage or playing in other rooms, and the pedals always fell off and dragged along the ground behind me. With the arced rods (they look like an upside-down U now instead of a round O shape), the pedals balance nicely so you can just pick the set up and move it. Again, unexpected, but increeeedibly nice.

4. Cymbal Expansion
-----> I'm still getting used to it, but I LOVE the cymbals. They make more noise when struck than the pads (especially the dampened ones), but hey, welcome to drums. One very unexpected feature is that after a song is done or before it begins, the cymbals aren't one-to-one synonymous with their colored pads. In other words, if I'm playing around after a song is over, hitting the green pad gives me a floor tom, and hitting the green cymbal gives me a crash. <3 <3 <3. The added realism of the cymbals makes the game so much more immersive. The only thing I can think of that's a problem is that adding additional cymbals might be annoying, and I *will* want to add one for the ride (blue), as switching from hitting a cymbal to get a cymbal sound and hitting a pad to get a cymbal sound is just tragic if you know what you're actually hitting it for.

Overall, 5/5 so far. I'll update this if I have any issues in the future, but so far I am blown away with the overall quality and the amount of small but noticeable upgrades they have made. If you're thinking about upgrading: do it, and don't look back.

4Huge improvement, but still a couple devastating flaws...  May 06, 2010
I'm not going to write an entire review on every aspect of this product because everyone else pretty much wrote the same reviews and they're all pretty accurate. However, there is one major flaw that I want to mention that no one else has seemed to experience yet. So, like everyone else said, the improvements are:
-Upgraded pads (Sensitivity-wise and sound-wise
-Structurally better
-Improved sticks
-More durable pedal (The pedal will still break but I just duct taped it up and it seemed to be a permanent fix for it. No more issues after that)
-Wireless

However, I found one fatal flaw in this kit that I want to throw out there because no one else has.
I've owned this drum kit for only 2-3 months, and when I play, I go pretty hard on them, but they should be made to endure that for more than just a couple months. I noticed just after a few weeks of owning them that my red pad started to form a bubble on it from the rubber stretching out. Eventually, it turned into a rip and I ended up ripping through all 4 layers of the pad (Rubber, pad, plastic, sensor), thus my kit no longer works. This is a good warning for anyone who plays expert drums relentlessly that this kit will wear fast and unless you can find some permanent fix for it, I wouldn't recommend it unless you can afford paying $200 a year for these drums.

Other than that, I loved this kit. It was just a major disappointment when I realized it was only a matter of time before it broke.

3Already not working  Apr 27, 2010
Purchased on 3/26/10 and delivered overnight (excellent shipping response). On 4/21/10 the unit shut off and will not turn back on even with new batteries. I'm hoping it's an isolated incident and that if I buy another they will last longer. I'm not looking forward to the hassle of getting them repaired.

5Rock Band 2 Standalone Drums/PS3  Mar 26, 2010
Bought drums for Rock Band Beatles game which I had just purchased. I already had 2 GH guitars which worked perfectly with our new game. Fortunately, my newphew brought over the drum set before my purchase so I could try them out. He suggested I purchase the RB2 drums over the original RB drums because the improvement of the foot pedal (metal over plastic) and the drums set played quieter. Plus the outer 2 drums pads had more give to them when playing. Great purchase from Amazon to include free shipping!

4Works great with the cymbals add-on  Mar 14, 2010
I switched from the Rock Band 1 wired drums to these wireless ones. The wireless setup surprisingly doesn't use Bluetooth so it still takes up a USB port. Still, it makes moving them into place a lot easier.

Otherwise, they're very similar to the earlier version, but with a few improvements. The foot pedal isn't just more solid, it's also more secure in how it sticks to the struts, which also makes moving the drums easier. I like how the drums are pressure-sensitive, for playing in freestyle mode, particularly with the cymbals add-on -- it's not quite like having a real drum set, but it's probably enough to do real practice on. Or at least to dork around with, which is all I do, and that's probably enough for me. I'm too old to learn real drumming.

I've used this with Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and Beatles Rock Band. Never tried with Guitar Hero though.
