Always Buy From The Maker Jun 20, 2003
By Emily If you want a DVD Remote, always, ALWAYS buy it from Sony. Not only will an off-brand remote (or anything else) possibly break down your system, but it's hardly even worth it (price-wise).My mother bought me this one to go with my PS2 for it's price because the guy at Target told her that it didn't matter which kind you buy. I thought I'd at least give it a try, knowing that it probably wouldn't work. Sure enough, after getting everything plugged in and such, nothing worked correctly. Some of the buttons didn't work at all, while some of them did work sometimes. My DVD was stuck playing and every time I pressed something it said something about not being able to read the command. After about an hour and a half of messing with it, I still couldn't get it to work. Frustrated, I threw down the remote and used the controller. About half-way through my movie, the DVD stopped itself and started over. I tried this numerous times, but after a shorter and shorter time, it would stop itself and start over. It took me a little while to realize that this DVD remote was still connected to the PS2. I took it out, and amazingly the DVD worked fine. Now, I'm bothered that perhaps my PS2 got some kind of internal damage that just hasn't shown up yet. DO NOT buy this, despite it being a few dollars cheaper than the brand name. I'm not sure if I just got a broken one or what, but I wouldn't take the chance. Off-brand things should never be trusted until tested. And this has been tested. Do not trust.

Sony Playstation 2 Lighted DVD Remote Control Nov 10, 2006
By S. Willson This remote was a life saver. I forgot that you could use PS2 to play your DVD's. I lost my feed for my sourround sound with my DVD player through my stereo but not my PS2. This remote brought back life to the movies we watch.

Sony Playstation 2 Remote Nov 04, 2006

I purchased this remote control to make watching DVD's on the PS2 easier. I had problems getting it to work consistantly right out of the box. I had to press most of the buttons very hard to get them to work. I hoped it would get better but it only got worse. I am now back to using the game controler and threw the remote control away.
I would NEVER recommend this product.
Works as advertised Apr 13, 2010
By Kyle The product works exactly as I expected it to. The buttons' functions are limited to that of the buttons on a regular PS2 controller, but it's still possible to do everything that you need to. I had to buy this particular remote because I have an older PS2 without an infrared port, and it's nearly impossible to get the manufacturer brand that comes with the IR receiver. As for the review that says the remote must be pointed directly at the receiver, I can't say that I have the same issue. I can angle it almost at the ceiling and it will still work. I can't imagine how this unit could break a system any more than any other controller could. In functionality it's a wireless controller that's shaped like a remote. This is no more likely to break your PS2 than any other third party controller, I would say.
If you have a PS2 and you need a remote, do not hesitate to get this. The price is right, and the quality is decent.
