Featuring advanced 3D texture-mapped graphics, full transparency and shading effects, and high-quality CD sound, it was considered impossible to emulate decently until the release of an astonishing emulator. The precise manufacturing methods of the PlayStation have gone through several refinements since the console's arrival. The current production model features a highly integrated chipset. Despite having gone through numerous hardware revisions, the technological core of PlayStation's architecture remains unchanged. | | | |

An overall Playstation 2 upgrade. Mar 07, 2010 My first Playstation 2 (original version console) was good, but problems would progressively increase from inability to play DVDs to inability to play blue discs, from refusal to play specific disc for no apparent reason to just not turning on at all. Every six months or so I would have to get my console refurbished, only to get the exact same problems in the exact same order once again. I bought this Slim Version about one year ago and I have yet to experience even the slightest problem. Highly recommended.

A Nice Revamp of the PS2 Console Jan 18, 2010 I can remember when, in the last days of the old NES, Nintendo released a revamped version of the system that was slimmer, sleeker, and easier to use. When I got this little marvel, I had some deja vu. Our original PS2 was unavailable and, since I still wanted to play my old games (full disclosure: I also have a Wii and a PS3), I felt I had to get a replacement system, that this was it.
What's different? First of all, the dimensions of this slim PS2 are, as the name suggests, decidedly more compact. It is much thinner than the original PS2 (at it's thickest, maybe just slightly over an inch) and much shorter (standing up on one end, it is probably about 8 inches). This makes it basically available to put anywhere you have space - in my case, it nestles comfortably right next to my Wii in our TV cabinet. Also, in addition to the usual ports for memory cards, controllers, internet cables, etc., there are USB ports. And, finally, there is no longer a CD tray that accepts/ejects discs - games and DVDs are now loaded into the top of the PS2, which opens like the flip-top mechanism on an old Discman and loads the same way on a little wheel in the center.
So far, I haven't had any problems with this system - it plays my PS2 games very well (I haven't yet checked my PS One games on it or regular DVDs since my PS3 plays them) and behaves just like our old PS2 did - despite the change in size I don't notice any slowdown in its ability to read discs, etc.
The Bad: While I like this system, it does have a couple of drawbacks. First, it is a little persnickety when it comes to loading in a disc: you have to be sure that it is securely and completely snapped onto the center wheel or else it will not read the disc. Also, I've had a passing issue with the AC cord not fitting correctly. Finally, while I love the slim new space-saving design, it's a little precarious now to have this unit stand on end, as it tips easily. While this is less a problem for me, some may want to invest in a stand to make it more secure.
Overall, if you are a die-hard PS2 player and need a replacement console, this is the way to go.
Video Game = Fun Nov 24, 2009 It is the PS2, but slimmer. Same quality and provider of enjoyment it has always been. Nothing much to say. Good system, good buy.

WHY, WHY, WHY??!! Sep 30, 2009 The PS2s are selling NEW for $99 at Best Buy!!! Why are these so expensive? $249 from that high end dealer, is that American Money? I better get the stand and extra controller and some games with that. I could buy a PS3 for that.
Newer and smaller. Jul 05, 2009 This is the seconed and last ps2 to come out. I like the silver version better than just plain black. It is the same as the old one becides the color and the shape. It is much handier than the old one because of the shape and size. It is allot eaiser to bring to places and eaiser to hook up. Becides that it does the same thing as the old one. It is harder to hook up the four player thing on it and it overheats eaiser too. It is a handy sheek new ps2 but it does the same thing.
