Golfing with an Anime Flare! Jul 08, 2009
By PutUrDoucsUp
"TDD"
This is my first time playing a golf game and when I bought this game thinking the length of the game would be short by just completing the storyline, but i was wrong. There are 9 interesting looking courses with over 20 holes in each of them. There's much to do thatle keep you into the game for awhile. The storyline is quite long and semi hysterical. As for the games sound track it wasnt any thing ear catching but it goes well with the golfing theme. The learning curve wasn't to steep. What I liked the most was the statistical data the game provided, which gave me a sense of self satisfaction. While playing the game there was some graphical glitches and there was some grammatical errors in the storyline. Even thought there was some cons it didn't hinder the game play and its appeals. The game is quite enjoyable and relaxing to play, also it has give me a new perspective in the sport of golf.
Pros +Lots of things to Keep You Busy +Statistical Data +Unique Character Design
Cons -Poor Grammatical Errors in Storyline -Graphical Glitches with the Floor -The animation sometimes looks awkward.

It's single player PangYa ... what more do you want? Aug 07, 2009
By Glory Questor Having played the PC MMO version since Season 2, I had always wanted to get a version that allowed me to just go through the game without needing anyone to play with. It's been one of the biggest problems with the PC version -- that you can't really go through tournaments or versus mode just by yourself because there is no support for any kind of true single-player mode. If you aren't with your usual group or with friends, the MMO version is harder to jump into and have fun with. Now PSP owners have Fantasy Golf PangYa to satisfy their single player needs, although it's a complete flipside of it's MMO cousin.
The game features nine of PangYa's many courses: the three Winds (Pink Wind, Sepia Wind, and Wind Hill), the three Wizs (West Wiz, White Wiz, and Wiz Wiz), the first two Blue courses (Blue Lagoon and Blue Water), and Dark Inferno. While lacking some of PangYa's most unique and fun courses in the mix, the selections make more sense when you actually play through Story Mode. Also, getting a game with 162 holes is a pretty nice deal, as each course hole presents a nice challenge.
One of the best features, especially for fans of the MMO, is the added player characters. In addition to the players from PangYa Season 3, the caddies from the MMO now get into the game as actual player characters. All new player characters have been added as well, but I won't spoil who they are -- you have to find out for yourself.
With 18 characters and 9 courses, you can tell that there's a lot of gameplay in here already, but mix in the various game modes such as Story Mode and the Tournaments (with their Qualifying Games), and you have a pretty enjoyable and nearly endless amount of gameplay opprotunities. The controls are nicely laid out and work well with the game, especially the trick shot system. After spending some time with the PSP version, the PC MMO's trick shots feel clunky in comparison. Other than that, the game is identical to the MMO version.
Graphically, one of the best features is impressive 2D cut scene artwork that compliments the game very well. To go along with the 2D art is slightly upgraded character models, with Scout being the most notably changed of the groups. The courses look like they were completely lifted out of the MMO version and look identical to their counterparts.
So, with all of this praise, what problems could there be? The biggest problem of them all for a game of this type -- no hotseat gameplay of any kind. This disappointed me greatly, as the only method of multiplay on this version is Ad Hoc mode over networked PSPs with the game loaded. That's it -- no server mode, no passing-around-the-PSP mode, just hosted networking mode. Remember, I mentioned above that this game was the flipside of its MMO cousin, and it's very much true. This game would have been perfect if only it had hotseat gameplay.
Otherwise, this is a must-buy app for your PSP. It's a tried-and-true golf sim unlike any other with a great story mode, lots of characters to unlock and play as, and excellent replay value through Tournament and Match modes.

Very Fun, Hours of Gameplay Oct 25, 2009
By Risa I bought it already being a Pangya fan, so I will say I already knew how the gameplay works going into it and didn't have any trouble at all beating the early opponents. I understand that new players often have a tough time getting through, which could be a source of frustration (it certainly was for me just starting out on the Wii version).
I like the added features, such as using caddies as golfers, the new course, and the mini license games and tournaments, and the camera angles seem to be much better (you can actually SEE where the ball lands most of the time), but there are some shortcomings:
- clothes no longer affect stats, so they're mostly for purely aesthetic purposes now, along with potentially earning bonus pang in wearing new outfits, which ultimately gives me even less control in how I wish to customize each player's stats;
- the inconsistent spelling and grammar drive me nuts. In the same tournament I've seen them switch between "Remi" and "Remy" in the list of opponents, back and forth, repeatedly, for example. Sometimes I see a "your" where there should be "you're"; I feel like this shouldn't even be an issue;
- the graphics aren't what they could be;
- and they completely removed a few courses (Shining Sands, anyone?).
I think the gameplay is excellent and it ends up holding my interest for hours on end, but just be aware there are these shortcomings (though they may not bother you if you've never played the Wii version).
Super Fan May 15, 2012
By T. Walker I have been a fan of Pangya since I found the MMO. Unfortunately the online game had many draw backs, mainly the sheer volume of people who use bots and sell items for astronomical amounts of pang. When I learned about the hand held version I immediately ordered it and I have not looked back since. Much like the MMO, you have to earn Pang to purchase new items. Unlike the mmo, your characters come free as you play through story mode, and nothing requires IRL money. The character selection is larger and more diverse and the controller style of the PSP makes accuracy much easier.
If you are looking for a fun and mostly easy golf game with an anime flavor, a diverse cast, and sans the annoying cheaters of the online version, then this is your game. :D
An amazing golf game with great features Mar 28, 2012

The Good: Charming characters, intriguing story, simple controls
The Bad: Customization is ultimately useless, takes awhile to unlock most courses, sub-par graphics
A long time ago, in a parallel dimension to Earth, there was a magical island-world known simply as Pangya. All was peaceful in Pangya until one day, an evil force summoned by the Demon King, came crashing down upon the land. This dark energy created a force field around Pangya that drained the life from the land. The world of Pangya grew weaker with every passing day. Flowers withered, trees turned barren and the earth lost its green. The people of Pangya could not come up with a solution to rid their land of the evil presence.
Until the inhabitants of the land realized that all of the life force from Pangya was being drained to the Demon King through a hole in the force field. A plan rose to plug the hole with a crystal filled with the spirit force of all living things. The power of the crystal became so great that it could not be touched by human hands. So the people in Pangya created the Air Lance, a tool in the shape of a stick to hit the Mystical Phoenix ball into the hole of the evil force field. This difficult task was eventually completed by a warrior from Earth, ridding the world from the evil force for good. In honor of this warrior, the game of Albatross 18 is being played throughout the world of Pangya. The name Albatross was chosen because it is the best shot one can hit in the game outside of a hole-in-one. Today, you have been invited to play Albatross 18. Are you ready to show your skill?
The game of Albatross 18 looks remarkably like Golf, in fact, it is Golf. When you start out in Pangya's story mode, you set off into nicely laid out courses with colorful names as Wiz Wiz, Blue Moon and Silvia Cannon. Playing the game is easy, simply pick your distance, then your power and `swing!' you're off to the first hole. Wait a minute, there is a bit more depth than that. Differently colored blocks at the left indicate a certain action. Hitting just when it is white produces the perfect shot while black or pink will make you tee, putting a point towards your par count. Despite its creative looking setting, Pangya still carries aspects such as wind, the level of the terrain, obstacles, bunkers, the fairways, rough, the green and yes even putting is accounted for. Different characters are available to play with and most can drive down a course anywhere between 210-260 yards. If the wind is facing toward you you will probably nail about 235 if your character can drive 260. This is extremely important when shooting over a river or over a cliff since you will come short and get an out-of-bounds penalty.
The whole point of Pangya is to get your ball in the cup before the other player and do so with the least amount of shots. Each player will take turns deciding what conditions will better their shot. You need to adjust accordingly and use your quick finger to get a perfect Pangya shot. Pangya shots will bring your ball exactly where you want it and anywhere outside the white box will make your ball come short. Pangya follows the traditional Golf gameplay in most places, but adds one little twist: Power Shots. Power shots come in different forms, ranging from the Power Spin that makes your ball roll back a few yards to the Tomahawk which makes your ball stop dead where it lands without rolling along with others. These sound useful but the execution is so hard to pull off you will quickly abandon the idea.
While most of the game's mechanics sound solid and easy to understand, not every element has been worked out to the point it should have been. Customizing your game, for instance, is about as useless as playing Golf with a baseball bat. You can shop at the Pangya store using Pang, the game's currency, which is earned by completing tournaments. You can buy equipment such as new balls, clubs and many other items. Buying Golf balls adds points to your attributes such as accuracy, spin and power. Strangely enough, Clubs do the same but are just more expensive. The items that can be bought can be used during and will temporarily boost the exact same attributes but can also do some more interesting stuff such as nullify the wind. All these elements could turn a standard game of golf into a true fantasy experience but end up being as exciting as watching paint dry.
The one thing that sets Pangya apart from its peers, are its wonderful story and charming characters. Within each episode of the three available chapters, you can play ten characters and they each have their own unique story. Each character is beautifully drawn with personalities so vibrant that they pull you in and never let go. Uncle Bob is an angry police officer who entered the tournament just to get some fried chicken and Max is a famous tennis player who is running from fans that are trying to get his autograph. There is no voice acting, but maybe this is a good thing. Most Japanese games don't transfer well to American voices.
Contrasting the characters and colorful setting, the quality of the graphics is sub par with flat and polygonal textures. In fairness, the do get the job done for this otherwise fine golfing game. Pangya is sure to be a pleasant surprise even to people who don't like, or even know how to play golf. Easy controls, wonderful characters and a fun multiplayer mode will charm you off your socks.
