I'm returning it Jun 23, 2008
By S. C. Dominguez For $40 + Tax, this package seems like a good deal, but after owning it I changed my mind. The devices are cheaply made, and the fit and finish leave much to be desired. For example, the cooling fan is designed to fit on the front of the PS3, however, the only thing supporting the fan is the USB plug. That's it! There are two small plastic extensions that reach up into the grille, but it doesn't take much to make them lose their grip, and with only the USB port to support them at the fulcrum point there's very little that could be classified as "rugged". The HDMI cable is OK, the charger is cheap but OK as well. The remote just plain sucks. Even with fresh batteries, I find myself having to repeatedly press the same buttons over and over just to get a response. In case you were wondering the remote is infrared; it's not bluetooth. I'd save my money and get better stuff if I were you.

Win some, lose some. Sep 26, 2008
By JustPaul I purchased the Psyclone PS3 Power Pack just to see if the remote was worth it for using the blu-ray player features. And the only reason for buying THAT was so I could teach the codes to my Sony Learning Remote! I hate ( = my wife hates) having to deal with a bunch of different remotes.
Teaching the codes worked fine although I cannot seem to figure out, or find any documentation, on how to use the remote to power up the PS3, but the standard play/pause/stop/FF/RW etc. all work fine. Note - Sony's remote uses bluetooth (like the controllers), the Psyclone is an infrared (like most electronic components) and uses a dongle that plugs into the USB port in the front of the PS3.
The HDMI cable is... well, an HDMI cable. Haven't needed it yet but my guess is, it will work just fine and with the prices some charge for HDMI cables, it's a bonus!
The charger works fine for two controllers at a time. It comes with 2 little clear plastic cradles that snap onto the base - something that isn't pointed out in the instructions, but they make the controllers sit properly and they make it easier to fit the charging connectors correctly. The bottom of the base glows blue while it's charging and changes to green when fully charged - at least that's my assumption since the instructions this kit comes with are completely useless.
The cooling fan - JUNK! After trying to affix it to the face of the PS3 I realized that a)its only attachment point is the USB connector so it just sort of flops and hangs off of the PS3. b)it could easily BREAK either itself or the PS3 if the fan moved too far. and c)the fan uses the left(bottom) USB port and BLOCKS the other one so if you use it, you can't even plug in the charging station or the dongle for the remote! Brilliant design! I pitched the fan in the trash and never bothered turning it on.
Pros - The remote gives basic dvd/blu-ray player functionality without having to use a controller. The charging station works fine (and looks cool if you like those glowing lights). HDMI cables ain't cheap and this comes with one.
Cons - Documentation on the whole kit is essentially non-existent. The little booklet shows pictures of what comes in the box - that's about it. The fan's design is awful - don't bother.

I'm returning too Dec 10, 2008
By Albeniz - HDMI cable is ok.
- The controllers base is ok, looks nice.
- The fans, I don't know, I don't feel like leaving that connected to my PS3, looks like it could break the usb port at some point.
- the remote is ok, cheap look but works, what I don't like is having to put the usb receptor, ah and there is no way to power on/off the PS3 from the remote.
I paid $35 for it, I rather pay $20 for the Sony remote and buy a cheap HDMI cable.
Psyclone Review Jun 18, 2010
By Andrew Coody Simply put. The items are of mediocre quality. Since the PS3 Slim has been out, you cannot find old PS3 accessories that easily. I did find this at Target on clearance for 10 bux. So I said what the heck I'll try it.
Got home, opened the box and immediately 'attempted' to plug in the cooling fan. Big fail at first. One of the two black "clips" wasn't designed far enough over to fit in another hole and so it broke off. Now I have just one "barely" holding the fan in place. When I turn it on I don't hear it as it's very quiet (good thing!) but all 4 fans were indeed spinning. No clue if it is actually doing the cooling like it's suppose to, but my guess is that it's not due to its' quality.
Remote was ok. I don't like that it's Infrared instead of Bluetooth. Oh well. It does work for basic functionality, but I didn't test all other buttons.
The HDMI and mini-USB cables 'feel' cheaply made (and may be) but I didn't test either as I have plenty of HDMI and mini-USB cables already. I'm sure they'll provide basic or decent quality unlike, per say Phillips or MONSTER cables of each type would.
Lastly, the controller charger. I didn't test this as I have a Nyko quad (not double) charger already. This item looks to be the best made of all items in this package.
Summary: It's good if you cannot find ANY old PS3 cooling units. You can keep the fan or whatever part you want, and sell or give the rest away to someone else. Buy another fan that isn't frontal USB required. Get a Nyko cooler (if still available on Amazon or somewhere else).
The only thing worthwhile is the charging base.... Jan 20, 2010
By S. Keith The other reviewers have covered the issues pretty well. I purchased this when I bought my PS3 and wish I hadn't.
Remote -- It works OK as a remote but has several drawbacks. The main one is that it has to have a USB dongle plugged into the front of the PS3. The USB ports are not active when the PS3 is off so it won't pick up a power on signal from the remote. However, if you are going to watch a DVD you have to load it in the system anyway and can turn it on from there. I bought the Sony PS3 remote shortly after and haven't looked back.
Fan -- The fan is poorly designed and cheaply built. I had it on for a couple weeks but didn't like blocking the USB ports and it doesn't stay connected well. I have the PS3 well ventilated and haven't had any overheating problems without a fan.
HDMI cable -- Just your run of the mill cheap HDMI cable. Not sure what HDMI standard it meets. I have since replaced it with a better cable.
Charging Station -- The only good thing about this whole kit. I have the charging station plugged into my comcast cable box which has a USB port that is always powered. The USB ports are dead on the PS3 when the unit is off so charging only happens with the PS3 on. It is sometimes difficult to get the usb ports to line up though.
I would not recommend buying this kit. I'd purchase the Sony remote instead and a decent charging base.
