Great Addition to PS3! Jul 24, 2008
By Master Gunner
"Blue 7"
I purchased this to complement my Playstation 3 console. It is well built, and comes with 2 adapters: one for the 40 GB PS3, and one for the 20,60, and 80 GB PS3s.
I think the adapters are mis-labeled (the labeling is molded into the actual adapter). I struggled to get the Media Hub to lock on to my system with the 40 GB adapter, but when I tried with the other adapter, it clicked right into place. The adapters have two small nibs that "lock" the media hub into place on the PS3 by way of the front air vents.
The Media Hub brings the total number of USB ports on my PS3 to four. With the 40 GB PS3, the media hub can only be plugged into the LEFT USB port. It molds perfectly with the PS3 face, and can be used when the PS3 is in the vertical and horizontal positions.
The only thing I would suggest for Nyko to improve is that the matte black finish should be gloss black to match the finish of the PS3. It's a minor quibble, but would improve the aesthetics of the unit. Also, the Media Hub only "adds" the capability for two additional USB devices, not three. The 40 GB PS3 has two USB ports. Adding this device brings the total to four, not five (since one of the existing USB ports is taken up by the device).
It is a very capable USB hub and card reader.

Elegant fix for another Sony blunder Mar 29, 2009
By Kriston Rehberg This item snaps onto the front of your PS3 and returns the SD card reader that Sony removed and adds an extra two USB ports. It comes with plastic inserts so it will fit on every type of PS3 including the Metal Gear Solid Special edition.
With repeated use it will not disconnect but it will come loose. It also causes cables to stick out the front of your PS3 much further than normal.
I do not understand why Sony made the stupid mistake of only two USB ports and none in the back. With Guitar Hero and many other components not using Bluetooth, my PS3 front panel has become a mess of cables.
This item cleans it up a little and adds the SD card back.
You can still use the second USB port (it does not cover it up).

Beautifully designed, works great! Jul 25, 2008
By M. Ghilarducci I was excited to see this product announced a month or so ago and immediately pre-ordered it. It came in two days ago and after playing with it for that amount of time, I can say that I'm extremely happy! Not a flaw with it.
It fits so nicely against the PS3 frame that it looks like a part of the design. The finish matches the PS3 black mat just fine unless you shine a light directly on the unit, at which time you can see a subtle difference in color.
The adapter snaps firmly into the vent holes underneat the USB ports and comes pre-configured with the 40GB adapter for the ease of most consumers (most purchasers of this will be 40GB PS3 owners). In fact it snap so easily into place I didn't even notice it happening, when I tried to remove it I could not until I figured out it had "locked in".
The card reader also works great and adapts to several different types of memory cards, but mostly I use a media server or thumb drive to put media on my PS3, so that's not something I will use often.
My PS3 purchase was for two reasons: Blu Ray and RockBand, so I figured I'd get the cheap 40GB one. When I got it home and saw it only had 2 USB's and no card reader (as opposed to the 80GB version) I was a bit upset, but my fault - I should have done better research. This hub has completely solved the problem in an attractive way while adding memory card functionality to boot - my powered USB hub with a crappy dongle has been officially retired!
If you have 40GB PS3 and find yourself wanting a memory card reader, or more USB ports, this is the only thing to buy!

PS3 Media Hub + Nov 10, 2009
By Anthony Leonforte The only thing that I found that was wrong with this product was the fact that it can't fit on the PS3 Slim. NYKO needs to make a similar one but for the PS3 Slim. Don't get me wrong but this product is really reliable but I thought it could work on my PS3 Slim but it don't.

Half a dream come true Mar 27, 2009
By A. Dent
"Aragorn"
This little device addresses HALF of the issues Sony created when it decided to 'go cheap' in order to be more competitive and removed any form of PS2 compatibility, half of the USB ports and all card readers from its PS3's. With the Media Hub+ you recover:
- the 2 'lost' USB ports
- the ability to read SD cards and, of course, Sony's own Memory Sticks
I own the old style PS3-60 but I persuaded a friend to order the Hub+ after reading the Amazon reviews, of course. He has an upgraded PS3-40GB and he was constantly complaining about lack of USB ports and the inconvenience of not being able to transfer photos to the PS3 directly from a Memory Stick. The Media Hub+ very much addressed his problems.
The following is our experience with installing and testing the Hub+:
- The claim that it adds THREE additional USB ports is false. The Hub does come with 3 USB ports but it's using up one of the existing PS3 ports to connect to it. You will have 4 USB ports, not 5.
- Installation is easy. You simply plug it in and... it's works. This is really a glorfied USB hub with a card reader interface.
- Once installed, it's hardly noticeable if your PS3 is set horizontally. If you have it vertically, it looks a little ugly.
- Everything we tried on the USB extra ports worked wel.
- We had no issues with the card reader either.
- Must be careful whenver plugging/unplugging something.
I am reluctantly awarding 5 stars to this item, because it was so badly needed and because the price is right but I do not condone the dishonest and untrue claim of it adding THREE additional USB ports.
Now, is anyone going to bring back the PS2 compatibility? :)
