Ignore the magazine reviews and decide for yourself May 16, 2009
By R. Crabb I hesitated for months around buying this game due to all the marginal printed reviews. However, I finally read enough to decide that it sounded like the type of game I'd like, being a former Magic The Gathering player, as well as enjoying other collectible card games.
I'm really glad I tried this game! I loved this game; I sell nearly every game after I'm done with it, but have not yet been able to part with this one as I still go back to play it.
If you like collectible card games like Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh or the like, I'd highly recommend Neverland Card Battles.
You start with a base set of cards, build a deck, and battle it out with opponents. Win or lose, you gain cards to improve your deck. Instead of playing resource cards, you move yourself and your creatures around to gain land, and that land allows you to play more cards and also pays for cards currently in play.
There's a fair amount of strategy in taking land and using creatures to hold that land, block the opponent, etc.
There's also the metagame of deck building. The game allows you to save 3 different deck designs; a great touch as you'll likely have at least 2 decks to use depending on who you're playing and where you're playing.
There are some issues with cards; a few are broken in power. But if the few broken cards bother you, you can choose not to play with them in your decks.
Overall, I loved this game, being a fan of collectible card games and the metagame of deck building. Whether or not you enjoy that style of game will determine whether it's worthwhile buying Neverland Card Battles.

Surprisingly Fun! May 08, 2010
By That Review Guy I had never heard of this game and upon seeing the title decided long ago to pass on it since titles like Disgaea afternoon of darkness were coming out.
I Almost missed the proverbial bus on this game! it's a fun blend of turn based strategy with card battles instead of the usual
attack/defend/guard formulas of old.
while the graphics aren't stunning the voice work is very good
and the art on the cutscenes is exceptional.
the game is fairly simple to pick up and play if you're a card gamer like me. the combination of needing to "conquer" land to summon monsters and cast spells had a very big "Magic the gathering" feel to it and anyone whom played battlemage on ps1 will want to look at this title. though not real time like battlemage the card selection and battles themselves can get very strategic and are a blast.
I'd recommend this game to any fan of card battlers
or turn based rpgs.
Graphics: not really up to snuff 3 stars
Sound: excellent voice work and decent sound fx 4 stars
gameplay: pick up and play simple. 5 stars!
Fun: a blast to play and a great portable game 5 stars!
Overall:
while this game may not be for everyone card game fans and turn based rpg/strategy fans should definately download the demo (available now from the playstation store) and make the decision for yourself. I however love it and recommend it. 4 stars!
Edit: I am STILL playing through the single player
and found another feature not really spoken of in the game
the ability to CHOOSE an opponent when Revisiting a battleground
you've been to before allowing you to earn More Cards
and get a better grasp of what style you are playing (or going to play) truly an excellent game that shouldn't be overlooked!

Chess Delux Jan 18, 2009

"woof on wheels"
Nevrland Card Battles.
I seen this game earlyer and didn't pay attention to it. I've not been into card battle games.
But the more I looked into it, the more it was calling me to give it a chance.
I do like strategy games, very much, and that was the only reason I bought NCB.
My review? This game is very kewl! It is very rich with strategy!
Also, if you like Anime, this game oozes Japaneese. Not the best anime but it is there. Bad voice acting and everything and the graphics are so-so.
But the gameplay is what makes NCB a good game. It goes beyond chess and then some!
NCB has made me wonder what other card battle games are worth getting.
Give NCB a chance and you might be surprised! I was! :)
Thats my review! Until next time,,,,, BLLAAAAHHHH!

Impossible to beat Feb 05, 2011
By J. ervin The story progresses by going to each new area as it opens. However you can fight the old bosses to attain new cards as many times as you want. Around the 12th area the boss is just too ridiculous to beat. That's why I am marking it down.\
