Although I do most of my purchasing on Amazon, this is my first written review of a product. Because of the lack of higher reviews, I felt like my positive input/support of the game was necessary. Hopefully people aren't too quick too judge and will ignore some of the mediocre reviews of the game, but Dog Days was honestly one of the most intense games I've played in a while.
Sure, the single player was short (which is why I'm giving the game 4 starts rather than 5), but it was definitely an extremely gritty, violent, and immersive one. I honestly had a great time playing through the single player campaign, and have started tackling Arcade Mode, as well as the creative and entertaining multiplayer components. Top notch voice acting and audio effects, along with an amazing environmental recreation of Shanghai, made for a great experience.
Maybe the handheld, shaky cam style isn't for everyone, but I found that it really contributed to the game, and definitely separated it from other third person shooters on the market (which was the whole point of it, but they really did succeed in making it work), and if it's too shaky for some players, there is an option to toggle the 'camera bob' on or off. Also, I'm never a fan of short single player campaigns, and I do wish that Dog Days had a longer one, but because it was fun and entertaining the entire way through, I feel more compelled to go back and give it another playthrough on a higher difficulty, which I don't often do.
The bottom line is that the game is a bit underrated, but really gritty, intense, and entertaining. The campaign is a short one (roughly 6 hours on Normal difficulty), but a very fun and stylish one nonetheless (greatly supported by the shaky cam and other visual/audio effects). Arcade Mode and the other multiplayer modes are all addicting, unique, and include a ranking system. If you're hesitant, give it a rental, or just wait a couple months for the price to drop and pick it up.

I never played the first game, but I was drawn to the style and presentation of this new installment. I have played through the single player story and it is shorter than most. It took me about 5 hours the first time through. I wish they could have created a more varied and lengthier campaign. It would have rounded out the game into a top notch title. The story was pretty simple and lacked a good story arc, but I enjoyed the one liners and off the cuff comments that came out as the story developed in game.
The game really pulls me in with how different it is with its presentation. For me it is a very welcome change from military shooters like Modern Warfare 2 and Killzone 2. Neon lights and dirty street alleys and the frantic fire fights through restaurants are so great. It feels like the best moments from the movie Heat turned up to 11.
There are two more game modes beyond the story, Arcade Mode and Online Multiplayer. They are mirrors of each other, but hold many hours of great fun. You play through a variety of heists with 7 team mates in several different game modes, designed to make sure you turn into a greedy, nasty, heartless criminal. Normally I like to play as the good guy, but after a few hours I was perfecting ways to kill off team mates and steal their part or the loot for myself. It became so much fun and challenging as you try to get to round 10 on a certain map. To me this is where the game really shines and stands out from the crowd. If you enjoy multiplayer this game is a blast.
Overall the game has flaws but can really shine in certain places.

Kane and Lynch 2 differs heavily from the 2007 game. Jesper Kyd's gloomy music is gone (a shame, since I rather liked it), the camera system is radically different, and the partner system has also been done away with. This time you play as crazed psychopath Lynch, a man so anti-social he'd make Al Capone run and hide. Or at least he used to be. In this game Lynch is on his meds, and his edge is blunt. So he's basically just a generic run and gun anti-hero. What a wasted opportunity.
The story opens in Shanghai where Kane arrives to help Lynch with a lucrative opportunity. Before we can make sense of anything further two important people are dead and the anti-heroes are getting the blame. A battle rages across several locations as Kane and Lynch desperately try to escape the city. That's it as far as plot goes. No big twists, no innovative narrative techniques. Just kill, kill, kill. You get to play as Kane in the last level, but for the bulk of the game he's just a background character helping you blast away at the legions of bad guys filling the screen.
The story mode can be completed in about four hours. The game gives away trophies like there was no tomorrow, but...the majority of them are for online play. I have to be honest, most of the game's lasting appeal and scope comes from the various online modes (which I have no interest in). It's primarily an online game with a story mode shoehorned in as an afterthought.
I have faith the franchise, Kane and Lynch are terrific characters, but for their third outing the developers really do have to deliver an EPIC game for the ages and not a cheap quickie trading off a mediocre brand name.

Forget rental, this game is worth purchasing. I've been gaming since the NES, and I've been flat-out WOWED by a game only a dozen or so times. Games like Goldeneye/Ocarina of Time/MOHAA/God Of War 3/Uncharted 2, the kind of games who's fun factor catches you completely off gaurd, this is one of those games. To begin, I've heard alot of people say the story is weak, and I can understand that opinion. A crazy guy and his friend plow their way through shanghai in order to escape the thousands of bad guys who want them dead. True, it's not oscar material, but regardless of it's resemblance to Army of Two: The 40th day, the fact is that this game somehow makes such a plot work.
This is the first game I've ever seen to introduce the shaky-cam style to gameplay. HOLD IT! This isn't the film industry's shaky-cam, the shake is extremely minimal, it's only there to enhance the realism of the game (which it actually does) and it can be turned off if you want. Another thing I like about the camera view is that it's designed to look like you're watching footage of the escape. There are random small lines, light changes, blurs on excessively gnarly sights, all kinds of the things you'd expect from recovered footage, and all of this really helps to suck you in for the 6 or 7 hours this game lasts.
Now, the one possible negative I will concede is that the gameplay is simple. It's a run and gun game, just like Gears of War. But seriously, considering the plot and the need for realism, magic spells and zombies wouldn't really fit here. Regardless of the repetitiveness, the gameplay is fun and that's what matters. This is the gaming equivalent of a scorcese film. I really respect the developers for wanting to make a game they enjoy, not shackeling themselves with political correctness. The game even starts out with a statement saying they don't wish to offend any ethnicities/religions/countries...etc. That's a rare thing.
Graphically, this game can still go knuckle to knuckle with games that still have yet to come out. Now, I don't play games online, but from everything I've seen, this game has some excellent online modes and there are even a few offline "multiplayer modes", which only seem playable by one player. The main campaign, however, does support local co-op. Load times are not as bad as they say. The game only loads once before each level, usually this lasts only 10-15 seconds. However, you will have to install the game when you first put it in the ps3, this will take up to 10 minutes, and you may have to install the upgrade located on the disc if your ps3 needs it.
The bottom line is that if you own a ps3 or xbox 360 and don't buy this game, you're crazy. As a guy, I love all things action, and like God of War 3, this game just unloaded and held nothing back. It's unique, fast paced, and most importantly, it's fun. I dig it, therefore I recommend it.

If you can buy and sell out of it for low cost it is worth one playthrough. The "camera" technique covers the game up too much but at times it really serves it's purpose. The action is the same way either the same or kindof neat at times but not stunning like Crysis or Call of Duty.
