Best MMO you'll ever find on PS2 Dec 24, 2007
By Volkai FFXI on PS2. It's the same FFXI you'll find on the PC or the 360. This is the original. It's the only true MMO on PS2 (Phantasy Star doesn't count, you can play it offline.), and you play on the same servers as PC and 360 players, AND you play with people worldwide. There's an auto-translator function that allows you to communicate with players who speak different languages, and while it's far from perfect it's solid enough to game with. Unfortunately this product is the only one with the HDD unit you need to play FFXI on PS2, but only comes with the Rise of the Zilart expansion. I would highly recommend buying this in tandem with Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2008 and the PlayStation 2X Network Adaptor if you don't already have it. The latter is the other piece of hardware required to play FFXI on PS2, while the former will hook you up with the three expansions that came out later on (Final Fantasy XI Chains of Promathia Expansion Pack, Final Fantasy XI Treasures Ahi Urhgan Expansion Pack, and Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess Expansion Pack) for a much better price.
All in all this game is a better buy than anything else on PS2 for the RPG fan- You get more gaming hours for your buck than anything else out there.

Final Fantasy XI online Sep 29, 2008

MMO wise, this game is as good as any MMO... As for the overall game, I'm pleased with what I've purchased.Very fun, time consuming an a stress releaser!! Lots of things to do an not enough time to do it all!!
so much for so late. Apr 05, 2011
By ffxi_guru Excellent game etc etc, have nothing but good to say. As far as this product being for sale still on amazon this late in the life cycle, not so much. 2004 was the release of ps2 version, and i think i paid this much (110.00) when i bought my copy, in 2004. If you still only use a ps2 and its the fat ps2 and this is the only way you can play, go ahead. but a new 40gig HDD anywhere else will run you less than half this, and the game itself with all expansions is only 20 bones. In summary: for this price id recommend for a serious collection (altho there is no real monetary value here). Otherwise save yourself a few bucks, buy the game on PC, and find some brackets to slap your own HDD in your ps2 (and youll need the network adapter as well, of course, if you dont already). To close: a bit overpriced for the hardware and a 7 year old MMO that may very well be on its way out.
