 Leveling is a B Dec 26, 2009
The game is really well done. Its super colorful so beware if you have emo eyes. The story is really good but it takes a little to get going. The characters are very realistice and distinct and you can watch them grow and change which is always a plus. The one problem with this game is the leveling. It seems to me that the bosses are easier later in the game but early on i had to go level up for two hours before i even had a chance. This means there are a LOT of battles you will be fighting. And i mean A LOT! And for some of the game the average monsters would die in one hit but when i got to the boss i would be the one dying in one hit.
The battle system is pretty cool and it changes as the game progresses to keep it interesting. Not my favorite but i've always been a bigger fan of KH style fighting and leveling.
I would highly recomend this game for RPG buffs. Overall its a good game. Just be prepared to level. You probably wouldn't have to go back back and level if you just grinded up at the begining but i've never been a fan of that. I just want to progress with the story. This isn't a game to rent in my opinion but its worth the money to buy.

I thoroughly enjoyed Eternal Sonata. The graphics, sound, gameplay, and story are all top notch, and I had a lot of fun playing it. It was sufficiently long, and had about the right level of difficulty.
To give you an idea of my tastes - I grew up playing the Final Fantasy games, and enjoyed them as well.
I very much liked the turn-based-plus-action/time-based battle system - a refreshing twist for RPGs. I'd love to see more games use a system like Eternal Sonata's.
A few small annoyances:
1) There are a couple story moments where it's just kind of silly and/or it's obvious the game designers ran out of time/budget. They're not a big deal and it doesn't detract from the game much, but in the interests of full disclosure, it's worth mentioning.
2) The game locked up on me once and forced me to power off the system. I have the PS3 version. It was during a particularly intensive graphical battle moment. I lost about a half hour of progress. It only happened that one time.
3) I felt a little compelled to level up characters a couple times to get some new moves or to beat a tough spot. Not a big deal, but a little time consuming.
Those small issues aside, Eternal Sonata is a very well done game and a worthy addition to any RPGer's library. Don't hesitate to pick it up.

i'm only about 5 hours into the game - but so far, i think it's a very decent RPG for the yet RPG-lacking PS3 community. the characters and the scenes are very well done. u get to pick the language of the voice-acting! which is awesome. i wish FF would do the same!!!
it's interesting that they put in some cut scenes about, literally, Chopin's life with Chopin's lovely music playing in the background. i thought i'd be hearing Chopin's pieces in the regular "game modes"... i'm not sure about having to learn about Chopin's life while playing a video-game... maybe it's coz i'm already too familiar with Chopin.
anyway, so far so good!
 Fatal Errors Oct 23, 2009
I enjoyed this game quite a bit on the first play through. The game encourages you to play through the game again a second time afterward to complete new quest and get access to new items. During this more difficult (and a little frustrating) second playthrough, I ended up in an area that was impossible to leave. This area constituted several different locations and since after completing a quest in the area I had updated my saved game, I was completely unable to leave.
This effectively ended my game. I was frustrated to have the game ended like this after 70+ hours of play, but I did enjoy the game up until that point. As someone who always has to do EVERYTHING in a game, this was a fun game, but a little frustrating trying to complete all the side quests.
