DOA out of the box Feb 04, 2009
By ML unit did not charge on front port out of the box... since the included instructions were of no use i thought maybe it was an inline charger (meaning that both had to be on it to charge...) i checked their website - it has been under construction for all their ps3 products since at least july 08... i searched and searched to find out what the lites on the controller meant... (finally found out all 4 flashing is charging...) so i called tech support... they did have any info either on the product... had to escalate to level 2! so i get a call back same day (not bad) and answer a few really basic questions - like did i try both controllers in that spot, was it REALLY dead battery before i tried to charge etc... and then yup its broken.. you can return to best buy or you can mail it at YOUR cost back to us in CANADA... now for me to ship this from VA to CANADA will cost over 15.00 even if i don't do signature required... and the item cost me 30... so that's ridiculous... going to attempt return to best buy for refund... and buy another brand altogether..

PS3 Dual Charge Station Dec 30, 2008
By M. Anderson This charge station is very good looking and charges the controllers as expected. I also appreciate that it does not use up one of the USB ports on the PS3.
PROS - Sleek design - Stores two controllers more compactly than other chargers
CONS - Requires an add-on for the charging that uses the USB port. While not usually a big deal, this must be removed to sync the controller and would block any other attachments like a chat pad.

I bought this item over a year ago and its still going strong. Your not getting anything earth shattering here, but it works well and charging the controllers without the PS3 on is huge. The PS3 uses over 100 watts when active and just using it for a charge station is silly. This is a very decent setup for the money.
Not hideously ugly Dec 29, 2009
By William Faulk Unlike the Nyko Charge Base 2, this is not hideously ugly, yet still protects the USB port on the controller from constant plugging and unplugging.
This one has more of a snap-in action than just resting it on the base. It's easy to snap it in, and I'm pretty sure that it's possible to remove a controller with one hand, with a little practice.
I don't think it's a smart charger, in that I don't think it stops charging when the controller is fully charged, but doesn't the controller have those smarts anyway? It doesn't even have its own LEDs. I think. There are two things on the charger base that look like LEDs, but I'm pretty sure they're just filler after the design was changed to get rid of the LEDs. However, It does prevent the charging pins from being hot before you plug it in due to the use of a little button on the charger that's activated when the controller is inserted.
The dongle is very unobtrusive, at least with the black controller. It has little ridges on it that align it with the controllers seams nearly perfectly. There are some very small gaps, but nothing you'd really notice. It does not obscure the LEDs on the controller. It even has a hole to allow access to the reset button without removing the dongle. There is a bump that's clearly intended to snap into the recess on the underside of the controller, but it's not even close. That said, it attaches pretty securely.
Other than the misaligned retention bump, the only other real problem I have with it is that the charger base itself is very, very light. I'm considering opening it up and gluing in a weight of some sort.
Update, Jan 3, 2010: If you want to use this charging station with the PS3 Dual Triggers, think twice. If you have the addon triggers attached to the front controller, the triggers press against the rear controller's handles, depressing the buttons the whole way. It's actually a little difficult to get them to dock at all, and I don't know what the effect of having the triggers at full depression for hours on end might have on the buttons. The rear port obviously doesn't have this problem, and you can remove the addon triggers while it's docked, but it is a pain.

Excellent product. You can charge your controllers (2) from the AC adapter and not have to rely on the USB post on your P3.
